Identifying and Treating Betrayal Trauma, Infidelity, and Problematic Sexual Behaviors, Section 3 of 4

CE Hours 3

About this course

In Section 3 of Identifying and Treating Betrayal Trauma, Infidelity, and Problematic Sexual Behaviors, we’ll explore the critical steps in creating relational accountability and rebuilding connection after betrayal. We’ll delve into the disclosure and amends process, guided by research on unresolved issues and their impact on relationships. You’ll learn how to navigate boundaries, manage emotions, and foster empathy through check-ins and other tools.

We’ll also examine individual growth, including identifying faulty core beliefs, defining self, and understanding family-of-origin dynamics. By addressing trauma patterns and attachment styles, this section equips you to guide clients toward healthier relationships and a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.

Please remember, this material may evoke strong emotional reactions as it addresses deeply personal and often painful experiences. Take care of yourself as you engage with the content, and seek support if needed.

If you have any questions, please reach out for support.

Learning Objectives

  • Compare and contrast the escape cycle and trauma cycle using clear, client-centered language that promotes emotional safety and supports connection between the betrayer and the betrayed.
  • Describe how and when to integrate traditional couples therapy approaches into recovery work for clients impacted by Problematic Sexual Behavior (PSB) and Betrayal Trauma (BT).
  • Demonstrate the ability to guide clients through a phased healing process for sexual trauma using interventions and language that are sensitive to the dynamics of betrayal.
